Nexes is a non-profit organisation founded in 1999 and based in Barcelona. Founding members were Italian and Catalan. Nowadays, its team is formed by youth workers, trainers and experts on European programs from Catalonia, France, Poland and Italy that came together because of their common ideals and interest in the dialogue between cultures. Since 1999 Nexes organizes activities that promote a human rights culture working specifically in intercultural understanding, social inclusion, active participation, active citizenship and conflict resolution. At local and international level Nexes is involved in European programmes of Youth mobility.
In the frame of the Youth and Leonardo da Vinci programme realised various activities in Europe, Mediterranean countries and South America developing important knowledge and experiences in non formal education, vocational training, project management and Youth mobility. All the work at international level is linked to the empowerment and active participation of young people at local level, such as in projects like “Crossroad” (feasibility visit towards a large scale Action 5) or “Globa-l-inks” network. Nexes counts with a large network of partners from Europe, Africa and South America and aims to promote quality projects with a strong impact on the local community.
Our main objectives are to raise awareness/educate young people in the:
meeting among cultures, focusing on intercultural learning and intercultural dialogue;
inclusion and equality of opportunities;
education to human rights (the three generations);
political awareness (in the sense of πόλις)
participative citizenship;
glo-cal action for social transformation;
personal and group growth, through the development of professional and social competences.
Nexes organizes alone, together with local and international partners or in network:
- cultural exchanges
- European Voluntary Service
- vocational training projects
- training of trainers, youth animators and youth leaders
- projects of youth cooperation
- study visits for experts and institutions
- counselling to local authorities and NGOs on youth international mobility
- orientation to international mobility
- local activities for social and cultural dynamization
We work especially with the European programmes: Life Long Learning (Leonardo da Vinci, Grundtvig, etc.) and Youth in Action.
